As a member of Morley Local History Society it was by chance that I realised that we had no history of Morley Independant Co-operative Society, It played a huge part in the life of Morley from 1869(1866 when formed). After an exhausting 4 months collecting memories and artifacts and taking photo’s of buildings and forming a scanned archive, the project has grown much bigger than I thought it would.By popular demand I am hoping to start work on a book and hoping to put on a slide show and event later in the year. This is not part of the Leeds Co-op project.Unlike many towns, we still have most of the original central magnificent buildings and branches, also as there are still two original co-op stores and a travel agency and chemists which have now opened in Morley from the same chain, it is 140 years on Sept 18th this year since the first shop opened (still there) I wonder if this is of interest to you and could you help further in any way.

Ps…None of my ‘chats’ were recorded, all were taken down as manual notes

Thank you for your post, Anne. Yes, that is exactly the kind of thing we’re looking for. Both Laura and I worked on a recent Co-op Voices oral history project funded by the Co-operative Society. We’ll be in touch shortly via email to discuss possibilities.
